This is a dramatic presentation of Australia’s iconic Waratah. Light blesses each petal, making it glow as if illuminated from within, and as if ablaze. The effect is heightened by a moody, textured background that shimmers subtly when caught at certain angles. Embers emanate from the bloom, representing the resilience after fire. It could represent the struggles of life and success at last.
I was inspired by my many walks in the lush Blue Mountains, where the Waratah’s fiery bloom feels like a rare and treasured gift. Once abundant, its numbers declined, but through preservation and recovery after fire, it continues to return as a resilient survivor of the landscape. Regenerating from deep underground, the Waratah is both fragile and strong — a true emblem of magnificent endurance.
This painting celebrates the Waratah not only as a symbol of beauty, but as a living story of recovery and resilience.
