Waratah FireFlower celebrates one of Australia’s most distinctive native flowers — bold, sculptural and immediately recognisable.
Flame-like passages of colour move through the petals, suggesting both fire and renewal. There is a sense of resilience within the work — of the Australian bush enduring harsh conditions and emerging again with strength and beauty.
Rich in colour and organic detail, Waratah brings a strong contemporary botanical presence to an interior while retaining a connection to the wildness and endurance of the Australian landscape.
The drama of the flower suggests, resilience and renewal. The waratah is the floral emblem of New South Wales, but for me it also speaks more broadly of the strength and endurance of the Australian landscape.
Waratah FireFlower grew from my love of painting Australian native flora and my fascination with the extraordinary sculptural form of the waratah. I find it visually exciting to explore familiar botanical subjects through bold, eye-catching colour.
Waratah FireFlower is a contemporary botanical painting with a strong presence — rich in colour, movement and the wild beauty of one of Australia’s most distinctive native flowers.
Waratah FireFlower will bring a bold, confident presence to a room, creating a striking focal point through its dramatic colour, movement and distinctly Australian character.
