Linda is a wildlife and botanical illustrator specialising in scratchboard. Linda has studied and worked in environmental science since leaving school. In 2010, she went to part-time work to pursue her passion and complete the Natural History Illustration (NHI) degree at the University of Newcastle. During her studies, she was introduced to scratchboard, which is a panel covered in white kaolin clay and sprayed with black ink. This provides a smooth surface for etching into the clay with a variety of blades and other tools. "For me, scratchboard lends such a dramatic effect to even the most common subject. Also, I find the process of etching into the board quite therapeutic! But no matter which medium I'm working with, I feel like it's a successful artwork if I've captured the spirit or character of my subject." ~ Linda Lunnon
'Kangaroo portrait', 'Where the blue fairies live', 'Persoonia pauciflora' and the 'Blue-faced honeyeaters' were works included in the folio at the end of the degree that won Linda the Margaret Senior Wildlife Illustration Award in 2014.
As an environmental scientist, Linda wants to study and record natural curiosities in all of their beautiful detail. As an artist, she wants her illustrations to inspire and motivate people to be curious, learn more and appreciate the beauty in Australia's plants, wildlife, fungi. "They all have a place in making this earth a healthy, fascinating place to be. With appreciation and awareness hopefully comes a desire to protect and conserve what is left." ~ Linda Lunnon
