Artist Statement

Over the years my art has evolved and developed and moved through many different genres. I experiment and explore different themes. Art, for me, is a never ending journey of discovery. I am guided by the shapes and marks that form with a brush laden with thick paint. Finding the balance, the shadows and the light, the quiet and the drama.

I would describe my work as abstract expressionism. You will always find the landscape in my abstracts. My love of nature and the landscape always underlines the abstract. I love to find the drama and movement and then the places of calm within the painting.

I paint what I feel from within not from what I see without. Mindfulness and meditation play a part in the paintings. Sometimes there is reflection , a lightness and a stillness and then other times there is drama and shadow.

I have many influences as my art deepens and I explore new avenues. But the one artist that always shines through, for me, is Richard Diebenkorn.
