Aerial Swell is a wave seen from above. I saw the reference photo online (on a copyright free site) and it just captured my attention. I'm not very knowledgeable about the ocean, but there's no denying that there is something mesmerising about watching it. Just the movement of water, the constancy of it. Strength and beauty combined. To capture the movement of water by the movement of watercolour, was an intriguing challenge. Small amounts of coloured pigments, mixed in water were coaxed again and again around the paper. The undulating movement, the lacy fingers of foam painted with a fairly limited palette.
Aerial Swell is an original artwork painted using artist quality watercolours. It was painted on acid free Saunders Waterford hot pressed 640 gsm watercolour paper. The painting is A3 in size (42 cm high x 29.7cm wide). It will need to be framed under matt board and glass. As with all watercolour paintings, Aerial Swell should be hung out of direct sunlight.
