Artwork Description

Giraween journey
As a young man I went on a journey to Giraween National park a small group of other aboriginal youth. We spent time connecting with country and learned some important lessons. I owe a lot to my Giraween journey and this painting pays it tribute. The Milky Way is represented with 2 black holes. This represents the time of bora when boys become men. This image silouhettes the rolling rock formations and the balancing boulders that are so huge but somehow stand on a single point.

Artist Bio

I am a Gomeroi man from the Mungindi area. I also have ties to Collarenebri NSW. I am a hobby artist. I have enjoyed painting and creating artwork since I could walk. My art is mainly in a traditional style and I also create more contemporary style work. My favourite media is carving wood, particularly Yidaki and other traditional material culture. Previously as a professional artist, I worked in communities including, Dalby, Toowoomba, Oakey and Eidsvold. During that time I worked in collaboration with local schools, health centres and the indigenous community.
For the last 4-5 years I have been working in the human services sector and during this time my art has kept me grounded and well. I hope to return to full time art in the future.
