Artwork Description

This delightful, metallic illustration features a male, Superb Fairy Wren (Malurus cyaneus). In bright light and under sunlight the bird sparkles due to the use of metallic watercolour. The most brightly coloured of the species, especially during the breeding season. Featuring a rich blue and black plumage above and on the throat. They can be seen in most habitat types where dense cover and low shrubs occur.

Celebrating the beauty of this Australian native bird. Artwork is hand drawn using a waterproof, black pigment liner and hand painted with metallic watercolour. Coloured pencils help to define and give more detail to the piece. White gouache is used as an eye highlight. High quality, 300gsm watercolour paper. Sprayed with permanent matt finish to protect the artwork.

Artist Bio

A Graphic Designer for over 20 years and a desire to develop my artistic abilities has led me to focus on visual art. Finding a combination of design and art skills compliment each other. Inspired by Australia's diverse flora and fauna, these illustrations celebrate their unique beauty. Bushwalking and a native garden also strongly influence my pieces. Mediums include pigment liners, watercolour, coloured pencil, markers and gouache. Artwork is hand drawn and sections intentionally left without colour creating a design element. My originals have featured in solo and group art exhibitions and collectors are from Australia and overseas. Collaborating with publishing companies, several illustrations feature on greeting cards. I aim to continually develop and refine my style, to grow as an Australian artist.
