Artwork Description

“Beneath the Surface” is an original artwork created with real seaweed pressed into a gel plate, producing delicate organic impressions that echo the quiet rhythm of the ocean. Layers of soft blue, teal, and earthy neutrals overlap to form a textural seascape that feels both abstract and rooted in nature. Each seaweed frond leaves behind its ghostly imprint, capturing a fleeting tide pool moment preserved in paint.

The print is made on quality paper, then mounted to an 8 x 10 inch flat canvas panel for durability and ease of display. This work combines the immediacy of monoprinting with the permanence of a flat canvas format— just pop into a frame.

Inspired by the Western Australian coastline, this piece brings the essence of drift, bloom, and ocean memory into your home.

Artist Bio

Lisa Detata is fascinated by the colours, textures, and patterns found in nature, often drawing inspiration from the smallest details—the veins of a leaf, the rhythm of ocean waves, or the play of light across natural surfaces. These observations become the starting point for her creative practice, where curiosity and experimentation lead the way.

Through techniques such as gel plate printing, collage, and mixed media layering, Lisa creates immersive, otherworldly artworks that invite the viewer to pause and explore. Her pieces often carry a sense of discovery, with textures and organic forms that echo the beauty and unpredictability of the natural world.

Her work is designed to spark imagination and offer moments of escape—little windows into other “worlds” where colour, pattern, and texture become a space for connection and reflection.
