I walk the same piece of bushland all year round. Each day, depending on the season, the light and weather conditions, something will jump out at me as being different. Previously unnoticed. Or simply beautifully formed. Fallen gum leaves often attract my attention because of way they dry, showing up insect marks, variations in moisture loss leading to differences in tone and colour. Often, I think of them as a still life. They are arranged by nature, with bark, on moss, next to tiny living plants. Caught by the sun, they can glow, or on a shady day, appear flat and matte. Whatever the case, they continue to fascinate me.
