Acrylic on stretched canvas, ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
This painting started as a photo I took on a bright sunny day. The flowers seemed to embody that sunshine too. Sunlight illuminates - it shows us our world, but more than that, light sharpens some surfaces and smooths others. It distorts shapes with shadows and it distorts colour, making some colours more intense, others dull and obscuring some completely.
This piece was inspired by the way the sunlight intensified the colour of the flowers and leaves, making even the imperfections beautiful. It’s a very joyful painting, because that is also a property of light – it lifts the soul.
