Artwork Description

I was at the local bush reserve recently and this peacock just wandered into the sunlight. The way the light hit his tail feathers brought out the most amazing colours.
At over a metre wide, this is a substantial piece. I used such a large canvas so that it would be the centre of attention, just as the subject so obviously wanted to be.
Metallic blue, gold, silver and copper paint has been used to capture the iridescence of the feathers. This makes the colours shimmer and change as you walk past the painting. For that reason I would recommend hanging it in a large, well lit position that can be seen from a number of angles.

Artist Bio

Thanks for taking the time to look at my art and to find out more about me and my work. My name is Lisa and I am currently based in the Hunter Valley of NSW.

I am a neurodiverse artist and my current medium of choice is acrylic paint, usually working on canvas or natural stone. I also create sketches on paper as well as sculptural works using found objects, textiles and yarn. My art is intensely personal and autobiographical with each piece representing something found. That could be an object, the play of light on a surface, or a combination of colour and texture that shapes my perceptions of a place and time.

The details of the natural world are what draws me in and inspires me, particularly botanicals as well as wildlife, from large animals and birds to tiny insects. I paint in a realistic style, sometimes with more abstract or impressionistic backgrounds. Paintings are the end product of a process that starts with walks in my local area and further afield, along beaches and in national parks, in suburbs and streets. Along the way I take hundreds of photographs and collect small objects. Back in the studio, the multiple images showing different angles and details are used as references in combination with memories and feelings of time and place to create paintings. Found objects are studied and used as canvasses or combined with recycled, leftover and scrap materials to create sculptural pieces and wearable art.

Some of my artworks have deeper meanings, but many are the result of a compulsion to capture and share the beauty and the joy of discovery in a moment in time. There's a growing distrust of beautiful things as we wonder if they've been created by AI, but my art is shamelessly focussed on beautiful real things regardless. These are my discoveries. These are the things, places, textures and colours that stopped me in my tracks. I hope they remind you of moments when something inspired you, whether that's an object, an image, or a story. That is what's behind my art, because those moments are precious. Joy is necessary.

My art is shaped by my experience of the world, but new experiences are always out there. If you have an idea for a commissioned work, or if you have a question about any of the works listed here, please send me a message. I would love to hear from you.
