Artwork Description

A Bouquet of Natives represents a Spring walk around our (mostly) native garden. Eucalypt leaves, gumnuts and wattle in abudance. Our native environment is breathtaking, yet, there is always the threat of smoke, embers and then, fire, represented by the shellac burn on the surface of the painting.-wax

Encaustic wax is a mixture of refined bees-wax and a tropical tree sap called damar resin. Together they make encaustic medium. When pigments are added it is called encaustic paint. To paint with encaustic it needs to be heated, or melted, applied and then fused into the surface. I use a blowtorch.
