About

Hi, I'm Liss, a self taught artist and painter of Australian native birds. I work with unruly watercolours, chalk pastels and inks to create detailed, vibrant paintings. My inspiration is the character and beauty of the creatures I paint, and how people (like you!) connect to them. Commissions are one of my favourite things, so if there is a creature you would like to see me paint, I'd love to hear from you. I sell artwork through the esteemed bluethumb, and also through my own website.

Education

I'm an anthropologist by trade, and a consultant by day. Painting wise, I am entirely self taught.

Influences

My daughter, Frankie, is the one who inspired me to finally pick up the brush. She's a keen bird watcher and passionate artist, who yells 'draw!' at me every time she sees a pen. My mum is a lover and ex-breeder of birds, and first brought Australia's native beauties into my life. She helped me to hand raise a red tail black cockatoo from the egg. His name is Garp, and he used to preen my eyelashes, and scream very loudly.
