Artwork Description

Inspired by the rocks along the shoreline of Tea Tree Bay Beach in Noosa, Queensland, this piece uses a mixture of textured modelling paste and acrylic to create a grid of dark slate grey blocks set against a neutral off-white / sandy background.

The texture creates ridges that pick up the shadows, and the dark colour of the paint is only partly mixed with the textured paste, so that each individual square is unique, with its own shades, shadows and contrast.

This pieces comes framed in sustainable blackwood timber and is ready to hang.

Artist Bio

Liz is an Australian artist based in Black Rock, Victoria, specialising in geometric abstract and mixed media, using acrylic and origami paper on canvas.

Deeply influenced by the remote natural landscape surrounding her childhood home in Northern Tasmania, Liz also studied the Japanese language as a child and draws on her passion for Japanese culture through inclusion of origami paper and gold leaf as a reference to Kintsugi (the art of repairing broken pottery).

Liz’s technique involves drafting then filling geometric angles, progressively creating a gradient of depth and movement. She uses painting as a form of meditative expression and seeks to create pieces that inspire calmness and evoke an appreciation for the beauty of nature.

“I love to consider how light reacts in different environments. The geometric angles are intended to convey the strength of the subject and my appreciation for simplification and structure.”
