Artwork Description

This painting ‘Park sculpture’ was inspired by the five year photographic project of Hayahisa Tomiyasu. While living in Leipzig he saw a fox in the park outside his window near a table tennis table. While waiting for the fox to return he observed how local people used the table. Observing the many ways the table was used became the focus - picnics, shelter from rain, sun baking. The colourful tables featured in my painting are in my local park and look too good just for table tennis!

Artist Bio

Ten years ago, I embarked on my artistic journey by enrolling in a 'Painting for adult beginners' class at the Brunswick studio of the Fitzroy Painters. Under the guidance of skilled instructors Adriane Strampp and later Kez Hughes in the Atelier class.

I started with humble beginnings but soon discovered a passion for oil painting. With their expert tuition, encouragement, and valuable advice, I honed my skills and gained valuable insights. This progress led me to participate in various group exhibitions, including those with the Fitzroy Painters, Print Maker Gallery, Victorian Art Society, Melbourne and Victorian Artists, Sherbrooke Art Gallery and Rotary Community Art shows.

My practice continues to be inspired by the creative exploration that first drew me to the studio, and I look forward to sharing my evolving work with new audiences. I work exclusively in oil paint as I prefer the colours, feel and effects that can be achieved with even a limited palette.
