Artwork Description

Underwater world is an original oil painting inspired by snorkling off the coast of Western Australia and was selected as a Finalist in the South Perth Emerging Artist Awards 2024.

The work involves numerous layers of oil paint layered with pallet knife and brush to achieve a unique three dimensional quality and the effect of movement - light, the ocean, coral, fish, are never still, they are always in motion and it is this that this work captures. This unique process has been slowly developed over the past five years, taking over a year for this work to complete to ensure proper drying before being shown and sold.

Vibrant colours are used to give effect to the beauty of coral, fish, give voice to the beauty of the privilege of being present and witnessing these underwater worlds in Western Australia.

The work is signed on the side and has a signed stamp of authenticity on the back of the canvas. The work is varnished and strung with cord, ready for immediate hanging.

The sides of the work are painted a mixture of prussian and cobolt blue around the boarder to enable it to hang immediately (unframed). Framing is available via Bluethumb or seperate framing (for agreed additional fee based on requirements) can be arranged

This long and large original painting is well suited to a bedroom, entry way, living area, reception or office setting.

Artist Bio

I am a Western Australian artist. My work can be considered expressionist and at times abstract, it can be bright, intense, dark - but always heavily textured.

My paintings explore and use the materiality of oil paint to capture moments and experiences, nature, sensations and memories - children/pets playing, leaves falling, oceans heaving, coral dancing, sandcastles falling, anxiety, peace and joy.

My processes and techniques use the texture of oil paint, carefully placed and layered with pallet knives and brushes to create the illusion of movement, space and a three dimensionality to evoke feelings and visceral connections of being present in a moment, experience or sensation.

While I primarily work in oil paints I do also enjoy playing with other mediums, particularly charcoal and oil pastels, creating playful works of my children’s leftover fruit – waste not want not!

While I am openly still developing and mastering my processes while completing my studies at Curtin University (OUA) and commence a professional artistic practice, I have been fortunate in selling commissioned artworks, exhibiting in Western Australia and selling work throughout Australia.
