Artwork Description

My Sun was born from a desire that outgrew its container โ€” conceived for a 90ร—90cm canvas, it arrived instead on a 20ร—20cm surface, as if the image itself could not wait. There is something true in that: rebirth rarely announces itself at the right scale.
The luminous yellow circle โ€” thick, raised, tactile โ€” is not the sun that burns. It is the sun that warms. The one that coaxes life from the ground after a long season of cold. A white stroke cuts through its centre like breath, like movement, like the moment something begins again.
For the artist, born in Rio de Janeiro and shaped by four countries and twenty-five years of searching, this is a recurring truth: that renewal is not loud. It is a circle of warmth. It is light pressing through.
Signed on the verso. Finished with Liquitex Professional Matte Varnish. D-rings with wire installed โ€” ready to hang.

Artist Bio

โ€œI spent years searching for hidden treasures. I didnโ€™t know I was the treasure all along.โ€

Born in Rio de Janeiro โ€” a city of impossible colour, salt air and uncontainable energy โ€” Liz Souza spent 15 years crossing continents before she ever picked up a brush.
She lived in the rural United States, where vast landscapes taught her stillness. She drove through the Abu Dhabi desert for two years, moved by its ancient silence and vastness โ€” a landscape so breathtaking it brought her to tears more than once. She walked the museums of Europe, absorbed New Yorkโ€™s relentless creative pulse, and raised three children across four countries โ€” carrying faith as her only constant.
She came to painting not through art school, but through a lifelong visual hunger โ€” years of museums, landscapes and a deep sensitivity to form that finally found its language on canvas.
Liz works with acrylic, sculptural texture and golden leaf โ€” building thick, tactile surfaces that hold what words cannot. Her work carries the weight of lived experience: the heat of a Rio summer, the silence of a desert highway, the ache of years away from home, the quiet miracle of beginning again.
Every canvas is an excavation. Every texture, a layer of a life fully lived.
Based in Sydney, Australia.
