Hazy Sky

'Hazy Sky' is the final piece in my 2024 liminal space collection. Hand blended with various chalks on Mixed Media paper.
Having this piece be my end to the collection I wanted to display as much colour as I could. The white silhouette 'Rückenfigur' suggests for the audience to slow down and consider themselves in the piece.
Influenced by Salvador Dali's surrealism, Edward Hopper's isolation themes and urban liminal space photography.

My current work depicts chalk mediums in both dreamlike and nostalgic settings. Completed works display dreamlike liminal spaces that evoke a sense of soft stillness. The scenes, suggestive of urban spaces refer to the paradoxical feeling of isolation in populated spaces. The use of the white Rückenfigur suggests for the audience to slow down and consider themselves in each piece. Surrealist ideas of Dali, the metaphysical spaces of de Chirico and the aesthetics and concept of liminal photography have all influenced my work.
