Artwork Description

Aria, a young girl refugee tells her story of her life on Nauru, Australia's offshore detention centre. She has been there for many years and at night she can hear the sound of the waves of the ocean. She looks to the moon to find hope that one day she will be free and find her place. The wrist bands and belt she wears are symbols of eternity, they tell of the star and planets in the universe that are neither dead nor alive, they just are. They exist as she exists and she finds comfort in this.
Struggling through depression, one day she finds that she can express herself through poetry and art. Now living in Australia she advocates for justice and has the desire to one day become a human rights lawyer, politician and published writer. She is at only 17 already achieving her goals.

Artist Bio

Lorissa's artwork reflects the changing light, ebb and flow, mood and colours of the landscape. Her artwork holds the simplicity, peacefulness and sometimes drama of the skies and sea.

Lorissa artworks are inspired by her love of the natural environment and the movement and colours of the landscape. She is drawn by the mood and evocative atmosphere's particularly of seascapes.

She has a passion for the arts, in music of the classical romantic periods, such as Debussy, Chopin and Schuman and impressionist's artists such as Turner, Monet and Renoir.

Lorissa's atmospheric moodscapes are expressed in an improvised style favouring contemporary abstraction but she also likes to mix this stylistic freedom with her technical skills learnt from her study of traditional fine art academia. This hybrid of seemingly opposing extremes creates an interesting and compelling individualised style that evokes the emotions at a deeper spiritual level, drawing on her love of the written word, Lorissa loves to write poetic prose to accompany her work.

Lorissa comes from a family of artists and musicians. She studied both Visual Art and Music as a young adult, training to be a classical pianist in her early career. She has also worked on large-scale murals and community projects and holds a MA also in International Community Development.

Lorissa's bespoke artworks are personal and meaningful keepsakes which can be collected as investment pieces and legacy heirlooms. They are the perfect gift for both corporate or personal occasions. It is the calm and warmth of her work that resonates so strongly with investors and invites buyers. Her artworks are represented in private & public collections throughout Australia.

Lorissa will happily ship artwork worldwide and offers 3/5 day door-to-door delivery services within Australia.
