Artist Bio

I have always loved colour, texture and pattern.
I like to be different in what I produce, often when I start a painting I choose a few colours then start putting these onto canvas, it may be messy for a while, but I start to intuitively feel the process I am following. I find painting in this way is very therapeutic, I live in the moment as I traverse through the painting.
I grew up in New Zealand, I now live on the Gold coast in Australia. I used to draw and sew as a child, so, when I left high school I under took a three year dressmaking apprenticeship, qualifying as a dressmaker/cutter. Later I owned my own business , this was where I then developed/enhanced my creativity.
I have lived in Alice Springs and Darwin. Traveled across the top and down the western side of Australia. Seeing the beauty of colour and texture, changing from the outback, to the sea. This has also inspired what I create. Viewing photos from my overseas travels has also been a starting point for some of my paintings.
When my children were older I had time to go back to drawing again. At around the age of fifty, I started studying with professional artists. I spent two years at drawing classes, using just graphite, grey pencil/charcoal. My hunger to be creative led me to further classes using all mediums of colour - acrylic, watercolour and oil.
My studies have made me proficient in portrait, landscape and all aspects of abstract painting. I enjoy all mediums but mostly use acrylics. My art varies from realism to semi-abstract to abstract.
Art is always a learning process, evolving, the trying of new ideas, breaking some of the old rules and being a little different -- this way I don’t ever get bored and I enjoy the journey.
