My name is Lotta Grimmelikhuysen, and I am a 21-year-old artist originally from Cape Town, South Africa. After finishing high school, I spent two years living in the Netherlands before recently moving to Perth, Western Australia.
From a young age, creating felt natural to me. I was inspired by my parents, both entrepreneurs in creative fields. My father built our childhood home and filled it with carefully chosen artworks. I loved being surrounded by art, and each piece sparked my imagination and appreciation for creativity.
When my father turned 40, he asked me to create a painting for him. He bought me a large canvas to fill an empty wall in our home. When I asked what he wanted, he simply said, “Make me something I would love.” Inspired by him and the art-filled environment I grew up in, I began creating. Since then, I haven’t stopped.
I primarily work with acrylic paint and oil pastels, although I am excited to continue exploring new mediums and techniques. My work encourages viewers to reconnect with their childhood and embrace a sense of playfulness in everyday life. Through vibrant colours, and quirky depictions of people and objects, I celebrate curiosity, imagination, and the joy of seeing the world through the eyes of my inner child.
