Central to the painting are people sitting together around a campsite, with smaller people within, representing those who are being cared for. This is a reminder of the power of relationships: to check in, reach out and lift up - the power of connection is immeasurable.

Water flowing from left to right in 3 waves, indicating that this one beautiful life is a journey; be like water and adapt to each phase. The 3 waves are for opportunities yesterday, today and those that may present tomorrow. Use these opportunities wisely, foster and create opportunities for others.

At the top and bottom are mountains, indicative that we come from many places. Within each mountain are reminders to show respect - the circles radiating different shades of brown are representative of our skin tones and that at the core, we are all part of the human race and all deserve respect. The mountain containing small interlinked U shapes, represent our ancestors and those who came before us. Finally, the mountain containing flowers is a reminder to respect and care for Country.

Lou Martin is an emerging contemporary Aboriginal artist (Wiradjuri), originally from New South Wales, however has made the Sunshine Coast (Gubbi Gubbi Country) her home.

She is a married mother of two, and has been painting for over 25 years; primarily in her contemporary Aboriginal style, however is quite partial to quirky beach scenes, floral and abstract styles also.

Lou feels a deep connection to the land and her pieces are often a reflection of this. Her coastal and hinterland surroundings, as well as their people and the importance of family and community, are often the inspiration for her work.
