Artwork Description

On a warm summer afternoon, I sat on my veranda overlooking parts of my garden and the view beyond, watching shadows paint crazy shapes over the pavement and the light throwing daggers over all things. I then thought that it might be interesting to create something new, a painting that glorified the landscape in front of me. I thoughts of the cubists, of Picasso, Braque, and some other contemporary artists I genuinely admired, while also gathering, in my mind and small scraps of paper, some of the elements I required to get it under way. In this process therefore I used acrylic paint, brushes, paper, soft and oil pastels in a decoupage and glue operation that landed something I thought to be quite satisfying in the end.

Artist Bio

Louis Sauzier is a Melbourne based artist who works mainly in soft pastels and acrylic paints. Well known for his landscapes, Louis working aesthetics rest firmly within the traditional and contemporary methods and viewpoints, which he has unfailingly followed for over forty years.
He was initially trained by his father, himself an artist of some note, before migrating to Australia from Mauritius in his early twenties.
Whilst his beginnings were modest , he rapidly gained valuable recognition amongst the art world community in and around Melbourne during the seventies and eighties. Encouraged by early successes, he undertook, in 1985, a bachelor of arts degree at the RMIT, which he duly completed in 1990.
He became a member of the Guild of Realist Artists from 2008 and subsequently established for himself a solid artistic reputation, winning many awards and prizes. Later, he also joined the Victorian Artist Society, which also won him many accolades. In 2017, he won "Best work on paper" at the Camberwell art show.
Art, as a contemplative way of life, has always remained the main focus of all of his endeavours, whether private or artistic and considers the inherent beauty of nature as a source of powerful inspiration for most of his works.
