My painting practice is mostly about colour/contrast and composition. This piece is part of a series of abstract Orb paintings with a rhythmic style of brushstroke mark-making. I've entitled this one 'Tempo Comodo - Floating Lights' because the orb shapes appear to suggest a comfortable speed floating across the canvas.

I use these orb-like circular shapes to capture the interlocking translucence of light while eluding to an imagined landscape capturing illusions of light. The brushstrokes are usually in a dominant direction either vertically or at an angle.

I want people to feel mesmerised by the colour in my work and experience the spontaneity of spirit and imagination that I felt making them. The musicality of colour is always present in my work, as the painting titles are often referring to notes, tonal keys, tempo, music theory and movements.

Influence and Process:
I’m directly influenced by Kandinski’s The Spiritual in Art and his colour correlation theories, particularly relating to sound and colour. I’m obsessed with colour and it’s evocative impact on our senses. As I paint, many gestural marks, shapes, and colour contrasts become the final composition. I love to create a sense of rhythmic energy in my brushstrokes. This is a way of interpreting sound vibration and colour. Each additional layer of paint creates a new beginning in a dance between what to eliminate and what to keep.
