With a background in textile design I have always had a love affair with colour and texture. I like to use influences from my many years creating original patterns into each painting.
Native wildlife here in Australia is my greatest influence. As I explore it through painting, I weave these textile elements such as simple geometric patterns into each piece. I love the punch you get with a bright neon shape next to delicate wildlife you would see in your own backyard.
I see the vibrancy everywhere; even in the most simple leaf. I love bold colour, textural strokes and scratching away layers to see the tones underneath. I work intuitively on the backgrounds, often adding rainbow bursts of colour, scribbles and washes before working on the final composition. I collage back in my own drawings of leaves and flowers or painted elements, to contrast and explore a different angle. I love the control and freedom collage gives you to build and rebuild the composition of a piece around painted or drawn elements.
Every adventure brings more inspiration.
