This artwork was made as a part of a larger project exploring the subconscious mind with a particular interest in the role of dreaming and nightmares and the purpose/ neurological intention that they serve. Sourcing the key imagery, concepts, recurring themes and ideas and the primary sensory components of high prevalence in my own experience of chronic insomnia, night terrors, and sleep disturbances of which I have experienced the majority of my life; I set out to create a painting project that allowed me to use some of the vivid imagery from my (often very distressing) experience of sleep and pick some of the noteworthy and visually powerful aspects out of different dream scenarios and environments to create a slightly surreal affect as each work has largely been informed and influenced by an intentional artistic form of documentation of a subconscious state. This allows the interpretation and reading into the subject, conceptual basis and context of the painting to be largely left in the hands, or more intentionally- the mind (conscious and subconscious) of the viewer.
