Artwork Description

The Mist of Memory evokes the personal journey of forgetting and remembering - the way memory comes into focus and then fades into nothingness, shrouded by the mist of forgetfulness.

Artist Bio

Hi, and thanks for visiting my page!

I am a fine artist and specialize in painting and drawing.

When did I begin creating art? I guess, as soon as I discovered pencils as a child. Luckily I was encouraged to pursue art as I grew up, and completed my BA(Fine Arts) at the University of Cape Town.

This year 2024, I'm an artist in residence at Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah and actively involved in the local art community through education and exhibitions. I'm also a member of the Botanical Art Society of Australia and the Pinjarra Arts Hub.

My current art practice is about creating a connection to the viewer through the beauty of nature, especially Australian flora and landscapes. I'm drawn to the stories we carry within ourselves, how our memories shape our identities. I love painting seascapes, capturing the emotional depth and ever-changing nature of the ocean. Growing up with adventurous parents, I spent a chunk of my childhood at sea, and these vivid memories inform my work. I want viewers to feel "there," immersed in the scene. The ocean's surface, influenced by weather, time, and location, is a reflection of both our inner and outer worlds. My other inspiration is the Australian floral kingdom. Banksias are my favourite plant to paint and draw, and I hope my art celebrates their resilience and diversity. I am currently exploring the theme of Grief and its complex stages that ultimately lead us out of darkness and into light.

I want my art to be beautiful in its own right, and to inspire reflection of something that is bigger than just me, or just the subject matter. Above all, I hope that my art offers hope, peace and a sense of wonder.

Thanks for taking the time to read.
