The Morton Bay Bug is an iconic Australian delicacy that looks like it may have been designed for sci-fi rather than your plate. Drawn from life, this little chap really did taste as good as he looked.
It is tragic to think that warming seas and the encroachment of harmful pollutants into our oceans might mean that our children only experience these extraordinary creatures as black and white illustrations in books.
With this image I hope to capture this animal’s intricacy and uniqueness.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
It is a rare gift to experience the marine environment
at a slow enough pace to appreciate all of its details.
I have been fortunate enough to do this and, through my drawings I hope to reveal the intricate patterns, and tessellating forms that are on display beneath the water.
As a mother and artist I’m also interested in the role that technology increasingly plays in our lives, and in a world where AI software can write a song, I was interested in exploring whether I could I replicate what a basic inkjet printer does.
The results are a mosaic of thousands of dots of ink, not dissimilar to those of a dot matrix printer. These dots give form to curves and undulations but, unlike a photocopy, my monochrome representations pay homage to the detail; toning it up, not down.
