Artwork Description

On a recent visit to South Carolina, USA, I loved the beautiful marshland around Charleston and Mount Pleasant. The water and grasses provide such a harmonious composition and, in this painting, I have also focused on texture to provide depth, dimension and to engage the viewer.

Artist Bio

Lucy Watts is a Melbourne artist and printmaker, who specialises is lino prints and acrylic paintings. She chose to focus on art full time in 2022 with the launch of her own studio, Yuile Street Studio. Her original lino print greeting cards are now stocked in many florists, plant nurseries and homewares stores across Melbourne.

While the cards are more simple and graphic in nature, her other love is larger scale, more complex prints. She uses large lino plates with her etching press, sometimes employing multi plates or else using the reduction method. Each artwork is the result of the infinite choices and problem solving that the printmaker encounters while attempting to best convey a particular message. This creative process has spilled over into her acrylic paintings, which have also become more evocative and gestural.

Lucy’s subject matter is often nature, but ranges from still lifes and landscapes to people and animals. She is constantly on the lookout for inspiration in her daily life - ready to transform whatever catches her eye into something that can be captured as a piece of art.

Lucy has won two regional art prizes and her work is held in private collections across Australia.
