Artwork Description

Balmoral - the popular Sydney beach is albeit deserted under a blazing sunset no one is appreciating. It is more impressionist in style than Cirsky's usual work – and asks the seemingly obvious question: “Why is something so beautiful being ignored?” Upon closer observation, a Facebook shark (not a soundwave) lurks in the shallows and various smartphone app logos + social media have claimed this territory - and swallowed self-indulged Instagramming beachgoers. The rest choose to sit at home on their computers… watching Youtube slideshows of beaches. Ultimately, when you travel to a place to enjoy it and stare at technology… how deep is your pleasure?

Impasto technique was applied to the sandstone figural rocks for further effect.

Unframed. Each animal painted by Cirsky represents commodities traded on the global stock markets such as: gold, copper, silver, oil and iron ore. Hippos bathe in glistening blood diamonds, Dali-esque giraffe heads take off on the stock charts whilst screens flash market gains and losses incessantly - as if oblivious to any suffering or disease. The absence of a lion was intentional - a reminder to the wealthy to invest conscionably and that every investment has a ripple effect. Textural effects and
a parched landscape are contrasted by dramatic clouds over Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro.
