America completed many nuclear tests in the Pacific between 1946 and 1962 - one of the most famous being on the Bikini Atoll - where native people were shuttled away so that their islands could be blown up during nuclear testing. These days, one would expect utter devastation - but the region is teeming with life... A radioactive paradise heeds dire warning: a bounty of fish, birds and jellyfish unfit for consumption - everyone except humans are the winners here - vale Mother Nature.
The artist was inspired and intrigued by nature's resilience and the futility of military activities which may lead to war - and obvious environmental catastrophe.
