Artwork Description

Reproduction Print on paper

Signed and numbered on the front.

America completed many nuclear tests in the Pacific between 1946 and 1962 - one of the most famous being on the Bikini Atoll - where native people were shuttled away so that their islands could be blown up during nuclear testing. These days, one would expect utter devastation - but the region is teeming with life... A radioactive paradise heeds dire warning: a bounty of fish, birds and jellyfish unfit for consumption - everyone except humans are the winners here - vale Mother Nature.
The artist was inspired and intrigued by nature's resilience and the futility of military activities which may lead to war - and obvious environmental catastrophe.

All art by Luke Cirsky

Surrealist Nautical Scene Limited Print with 5cm white border. Printed on high quality archival paper with fade proof inks. Unframed. Each animal painted by Cirsky represents commodities traded on the global stock markets such as: gold, copper, silver, oil and iron ore. Hippos bathe in glistening blood diamonds, Dali-esque giraffe heads take off on the stock charts whilst screens flash market gains and losses incessantly - as if oblivious to any suffering or disease. The absence of a lion was intentional - a reminder to the wealthy to invest conscionably and that every investment has a ripple effect. Textural effects and
a parched landscape are contrasted by dramatic clouds over Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro.
