Welcome to a world of vibrance, whimsy and charming irreverence that is the art of Luke Cirsky: who now works out of his studio in Brisbane. Born in regional Victoria to Czech / Australian parents and growing up in QLD, he garnered an early passion for arts and expression. Encouraged by his family, his approach to painting and technical drawing - "detail wins over slapdash" saw him win various creative school prizes, recognised in 2005 Minister's Art Awards - his senior year. Art also proved a welcome distraction from certain surgeries he had across his youth.
After graduating college in 2012, Cirsky moved to Sydney where he later painted in the quiet leafy suburb of North Epping. Of the six years living in the harbour city, for much of 2017 he isolated himself from the world - simply oil painting. September saw him launch his first solo Surrealism show, 'Visions of Graceful Absurdity' at Gaffa Gallery, near city Town Hall - culminating in a major surrealist art sale "Welcome to Leadlight Land", to Luxembourg, EU.
By 2019, he would exhibit solo again with 4 new artworks, in a surrealist show called "Luke Cirsky - Fountains of Whimsy" near downtown Sydney, in Glebe. This show again featured many of his paintings - resulted in three sales at January close and was his final show before moving back near family in Brisbane.
Luke is inspired by European / Czech craftmanship and attributes some of his intricate practice to their glass arts and bohemian colour palette. More directly, his inspirations come from the likes of indigenous surrealist artist Lin Onus, quirky surrealist Vladimir Kush and even maritime artists such as Ken Marschall.
viewers are lost in 'dreamscapes' of wondrous beauty and spirituality.
