Narai Juku is a gorgeous Edo era town in the Kiso Valley. This is one of the most picturesque towns on the Nakasendo Trail, the old route from Kyoto to Tokyo. Travellers, lords and samurai would make their way from one city to the next, hiking from town to town. Narai was the most weathly, and earned the name of "Narai of a Thousand Houses".
