Luke McNally Wulgurukaba/Bundjalung
Lukes ancestry originates from the Wulgurukaba people of the Townsville region. At the age of 8 he moved with his family to Tweeds Heads, where he attended school and lived on Bunjalung territory until recently.
He started painting in 2015 during a period of incarceration. He now paints professionally and has commisioned works for St Vincents Hospital, NSW Govorment, the Victorian Koori Court and privately through the Tourch program.
He is still incarcerated in Victoria and paints to help support his family & prepare him for a life outside the prison system.
He encourages and mentors young indigenous men in jail to use art as a means of staying connected to their culture, tell stories and escape the stress and anxiety associated with prison.
