Artwork Description

This painting is a colour study for my current body of work that explores social control and mental health. In this work the street sign has been reclaimed to express a thought and desire for people to 'Keep Your Thoughts To Yourself'. This message is double edged - a plea to others consider the things they say while also being a warning to the self; keeping your thoughts to yourself may not always be healthy for your mental wellbeing.

Artist Bio

Luke Morgan is an artist and arts educator based in Western Australia. His work is mostly figurative in nature and encompasses a range of studio areas with a focus on oil painting, ceramic sculpture and relief printmaking. A reflection on the symbolism of journey and the significance of myth in the formation of identity, his practice is represented in compositions that comment on the uncertainty of 21st century life.

Recent work explores the concept of social control, using street signs as an external representation of the internal forms of control that we place upon ourselves. By combining portraiture, text and symbols of social control, themes of mental health and wellbeing are examined.
