Artwork Description

This piece is part of Lulu Unsworth’s Flower Series, a collection inspired by time spent in Hawaii — a place that offered stillness, clarity, and deep appreciation for natural beauty.

In this work, Lulu distills the essence of a flower down to its most honest form: a single dark bloom, rendered boldly on a neutral canvas. The petals appear thick and soft, yet their form gently dissolves into gravity — paint dripping downward like rain on hot stone or petals releasing back to the earth.

The work honours the imperfect, the undone, and the organic. It speaks to the way beauty exists in the fleeting, the unpolished, and the deeply felt. As with the rest of the series, the painting holds a sense of quiet — a calmness rooted in nature, balance, and breath.

Artist Bio

Lulu Unsworth is an Australian multidisciplinary creative whose work sits in the quiet tension between softness and strength. With a background in design and a deep reverence for natural textures, her practice is rooted in abstraction — an intuitive, feeling-first approach where each piece becomes a release, a meditation, and a moment of stillness.

Lulu doesn’t begin with a finished image in mind; instead, her process is guided by emotion, gesture, and presence. Texture is central to her work — she creates pieces that invite both distance and closeness, encouraging the viewer to step back and feel, then lean in and explore. Favouring large-scale canvases that hold space for quiet complexity, Lulu’s work is both subtle and immersive, capturing inner states with softness and strength.

She is currently seeking opportunities to expand her practice into even larger-scale works and immersive projects that push the boundaries of texture, emotion, and scale.
