This takes me back to the care free days & visits on my grandparents farm. The smell of aniseed, cinnamon & fresh coffee hanging in the cold morning air. A short stout figure always dressed in some flower print dress& perfectly laid curls stiring the pot of melkkos on the warm toasty aga stove. All would be gathering around the aga rubbing their hands hoping for some of the heat to breathe back the life in their cold numb feet. Grandpa would have just stepped in with the milk bucket and Nanna yelling at his dirty shoe prints. He'd pull out his pipe fill it with tobacco & call me over. I'd hop on his lap and he would run his bent callus fingers first slow then faster & faster on the kitchen table and say can you hear the horses running? Outside an impatient rooster would ruffle his feathers once again and greet the rising sun with his best crow possible. These really were the good ole days!
