Lurlene Murray was born & grew up in Kalgoorlie with a variety of pets. Influenced by her fathers sketching, respect for animals & their characteristics. He was passionate that pet birds should not be confined to a small cage. The owner should be encouraged to handle & let them out, or if unable at least have them in a large aviary.
From this the passion for understanding animals & birds began. Other mediums , oils, and also watercolour have been used. At present it is acrylic on canvas. The aim of most of the acrylic work is to develop it with more Structure paint & impasto medium & encourage the viewer to want to touch the painting.
Over time work has been exhibited & sold in many & a variety of group exhibitions.
The artist would like to capture something of the character of the animal or bird with respect to their spirituality. To hold the viewers attention for a moment to relate to the painting & the subject is a bonus. Most of the works are adapted from photo’s that her husband Alex takes. The majority of the birds are friends that enter their backyard, therefore most of the birds have been observed over time.
