Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
Signed on the back.
Blending abstraction with still life subject matter. This piece is about layering shapes and colours.
As the work progresses it becomes more about the process and less about the original objects. The work gradually evolves out of a process that celebrates the texture of the paint, the colours and the editing out and adding in. Originally this was predominantly a green piece with a dark blue pot and at some point the warm browns and pinks took over. The colour transitions but some remnants of the previous layers remain.
The thick impasto oils need plenty of time to dry so the work slowly takes on a life of it's own. It is left to sit and dry for a month or so between additions and when it is reviewed again it can be seen with fresh eyes before parts are edited out, colours changed or additions made.
