A PATH THROUGH A COLOURFUL LANDSCAPE

Journey Through Art: From the Western Suburbs to the Canvas
Growing up in the Western suburbs of Sydney, I was surrounded by creativity. My family was steeped in artistic talent—my father, a painter of ships, and my brother, a celebrated landscape artist, both left indelible marks on the world of art. Like them, I am a self-taught artist, and over the years, we have each cultivated our own unique styles, allowing our creativity to flourish in different directions.Our artistic journey wasn’t confined to one place. As a family, we lived in the breathtaking Blue Mountains and later in the serene coastal town of Port Macquarie. These landscapes, with their natural beauty and ever-changing light, became a wellspring of inspiration for me. The mid-north coast, in particular, left a profound impact on my work, sparking my passion for painting seascapes. There’s something about the rhythm of the waves, the interplay of light on water, and the vastness of the ocean that speaks to my soul. Seascapes have become my first love in art—a way to capture the essence of the sea’s boundless energy and tranquility.In recent years, I’ve also ventured into the world of abstract painting. It’s a completely different experience, one that allows me to play with colors in a freer, more intuitive way. Abstract art is like a dance with the unknown—a splash of color here, a bold stroke there, with no fixed destination in mind. It’s about letting the colors guide me until the piece feels complete. This process has been both challenging and exhilarating, opening up new avenues for self-expression.Beyond my personal artistic pursuits, I’ve found immense fulfillment in teaching art. At the Women’s Health Centre, I work with women who have experienced domestic violence, using art as a tool for healing and recovery. It’s incredibly rewarding to see these women rediscover their strength and creativity through painting. Art has a way of mending what feels broken, offering a safe space to explore emotions and rebuild confidence.Through all these experiences, I’ve come to realize that art is not just about creating something beautiful—it’s about connection. It connects us to the world around us, to our emotions, and to each other. Whether I’m painting a seascape, experimenting with abstract forms, or guiding someone on their own artistic journey, I feel a deep sense of purpose and joy.Art has been my constant companion, a thread weaving through the tapestry of my life. From the Western suburbs of Sydney to the shores of Port Macquarie, and now in the studio where I teach and create, it continues to inspire and sustain me. As I look to the future, I’m excited to see where this journey will take me next—because with art, the possibilities are endless.
