Artwork Description

Dawn Soulcircle - Original Painting with Seashells

This is a work from my new Seashell Soulcircle Series, oil on canvas abstract paintings, with seasalt and some adorned with seashells that I have foraged off the beach in front of my studio, Geraldton, Western Australia. I love the idea that there's a sense of literally embodying the sea in my art with their inclusion. The seashells offer a healing essence and remind us that every passing life leaves something beautiful behind. Created within transcendent circles, a sacred symbol of life and soul, my ‘Soulcircles’ offer a path inwards. Each work evolves from an intuitive free flow, I’m deeply inspired by the sea and believe in its ability to soothe our soul and transform our lives. I don't plan my painting, it's all about just going with the flow. Sometimes, though, it's amazing what symbols, colours and shapes appear within the soul circle all by themselves and offer some fascinating insights.

For this one, the soft touch of pink and peach of the sky before the sunrise reflecting in the silver baby blue waves of the sea are grounded in the beauty of nature. Symbolising the illumination of hope and happiness in the new day, a birth of awakening.

Artist Bio

Lynda Howitt is an Australian abstract artist based on Western Australia’s coast, known for her SoulCircles and atmospheric abstract seascapes. Her work is created in presence — intuitive, fluid, and guided by stillness, water, and breath.

Her SoulCircles are delicate ink works formed in flow, exploring stillness as a living force. Alongside these, her larger oil paintings draw from the rhythm, light, and expansive clarity of the ocean — expressive yet grounded, abstract yet deeply felt.

Howitt’s practice is intuitive and sensory. She does not pre-plan her compositions; each work emerges from the moment itself, capturing movement, depth, and a quiet emotional resonance.

She has exhibited extensively across Australia and internationally, with works held in private and public collections including the Royal Hospital for Women and the City of Greater Geraldton. Her career includes winning one of Australia’s richest art prizes, alongside a previous background in creative direction and design — a foundation that continues to inform the refinement and clarity of her work.

Her paintings are meditations in form — explorations of flow, presence, and the art of being.
