My artistic journey is deeply founded in my profound connection with coastal life. Each day, I take seaside walk near my home, and this ritual fuels my creative spirit. These experiences, coupled with my unwavering fascination with the ocean, have given rise to a series of paintings that interweave the emotive quality of ink with the hues reminiscent of the Indian Ocean along Western Australia's coastline. These artworks symbolise the constant flow of life and the uncharted voyage of the soul.

I paint each piece with a harmonious blend of intuition and artistic freedom. Using ink and seawater on paper, the textures created bear a resemblance to the sea's salt-kissed surfaces. Occasionally, I layer oils atop the ink, embodying the concept of reconnecting with our inner selves, much like the profound reconnection we experience when we stand by the sea.

The sea, an eternal chameleon, has a remarkable ability to elicit solace, renewal, and transformative introspection. I believe in the ocean's power to heal and shift our perspectives on life. My artwork seeks to convey the sea's tranquil essence, encapsulating its innate sensitivity, while also serving as a reminder of the joys inherent in life's uncomplicated pleasures. It represents the potent journey of not only returning to a physical space but rediscovering the core of our own existence.

I aim for my works to resonate deeply though my "Soulcircle" technique, an artistic style that evokes an inner connection. I work to captures the fluidity of life's perpetual change, with circles symbolising interconnectedness. Water, symbolises our emotions, while inks and oils enhance the intricacy. My profound appreciation for nature underscores my belief in cherishing life’s simple pleasures and natures natural beauty and design, things that touch our souls deeply.

Artist Bio

Lynda Howitt is an Australian abstract artist based on Western Australia’s coast, known for her SoulCircles and atmospheric abstract seascapes. Her work is created in presence — intuitive, fluid, and guided by stillness, water, and breath.

Her SoulCircles are delicate ink works formed in flow, exploring stillness as a living force. Alongside these, her larger oil paintings draw from the rhythm, light, and expansive clarity of the ocean — expressive yet grounded, abstract yet deeply felt.

Howitt’s practice is intuitive and sensory. She does not pre-plan her compositions; each work emerges from the moment itself, capturing movement, depth, and a quiet emotional resonance.

She has exhibited extensively across Australia and internationally, with works held in private and public collections including the Royal Hospital for Women and the City of Greater Geraldton. Her career includes winning one of Australia’s richest art prizes, alongside a previous background in creative direction and design — a foundation that continues to inform the refinement and clarity of her work.

Her paintings are meditations in form — explorations of flow, presence, and the art of being.
