Gouache on paper

The muted blue of the D’Aguilar Range caught my eye as I was driving by on a late summer afternoon.

Long after rain passes through the Somerset region it lingers on the range that separates the area from the coastal fringe. On the day I spied this view, the lemon yellow thunderheads were carrying the storm out to sea, picking up the afternoon sunlight, while the drifting overhead clouds held moisture. The diagonal of the tree-lined creek was an integral part of the image.

This image is one of 15 in 'The Somerset Series', featuring the beautiful landscape of the Somerset Region. All works in this series are gouache on archival paper, and were particularly inspired by the wet season that passed through after a period of dry weather. They also formed a series of prints.
