I have maintained a keen interest in art from an early age …… that’s quite a while!
Throughout my teaching career I was content exploring art techniques and processes with my students, the program being acknowledged with the receipt of a NSW Ministerial Achievement Award in 2001. I took up the challenges of watercolour more seriously once retired and I had finally mastered my other long lasting passion, coffee making.
My great grandfather, Pilfold Fletcher-Watson, was the founding president of the Australian Academy of Art (1887). He was a well known watercolorist who specialised in architectural and ecclesiastic scenes of many of the world’s great cathedrals. His work has been a constant inspiration and catalyst in my art journey.
I enjoy painting beach and river scapes in my local area, the picturesque Tweed Valley in northern NSW. However, I am even more comfortable rendering my take on alley ways and street scapes (often framed by archways or portals) encountered during my overseas travels. I have been heartened by the sale of examples of my work over the years.
Although having dabbled in acrylics, oils and print making, watercolour remains my medium of choice.
My paintings are what they are; not decaffeinated almond milk lattes, more your simple short blacks. I believe simplicity is the key.
