Lith printing has defined my work, when I take my photographs, I visualise the final print as it will respond to lith development. A technique of heavily over-exposing a black and white negative onto a suitable paper, then only partially developing it in very dilute lith developer, I am able to produce a colourful monochrome print, with special properties in terms of tonal distribution. Impossible to duplicate, it becomes for me more about image interpretation than about image reproduction. With too many variables to permit the exact reproduction only adds to my prints uniqueness and innate charm.
I enjoy all aspects of traditional photography from visualising composition to developing negatives, and most especially, darkroom printing of which all these variables can be exploited to produce surprising and rewarding results.
