Artwork Description

My work uses fairytale iconography to redress the hero vs monster trope and illustrate that we all have monsters, but we can befriend them, care for them and by doing so care for ourselves. By treating our most damaged edges with tenderness, we can live in coexistence, and may begin to shed light on our own shadows.
Therefore, my work is designed to be received differently for each person, it's based on my own experiences - but maybe you can see some of yours in there too.

My name is Madison Martin and I'm a professional fine artist and technical illustrator, small business owner and teacher, finalist at the Du Rietz Art Awards in 2022 and a pro at running with scissors.

My work draws from traditional fairytale iconography but disavows the hero vs monster trope, instead placing my figures in harmony to depict that we all have monsters, but we can befriend them, care for them, and maybe even live in peace with them.
