The Interval is part of my ongoing Inviolate series, which follows a recurring pearl-like form through changing emotional, atmospheric, and psychological environments.
This painting was inspired by the experience of searching for calm while still moving through uncertainty. The small luminous sphere represents an enduring inner presence, while the surrounding landscape suggests a moment suspended between movement and arrival. Slender, tree-like forms rise through muted greys, soft blush, violet, blue, and maroon, creating an environment that feels both familiar and slightly dreamlike.
The artwork has been built through layered acrylic paint on canvas, combining translucent washes, textured brushwork, fluid marks, and denser areas of colour. These varied surfaces create depth and movement, while the smooth pearl-like form provides a quiet visual focus.
With its soft atmospheric palette and deeper jewel-toned accents, The Interval can bring a sense of reflection, calm, and visual depth to a living room, bedroom, study, or contemplative space. The work invites the viewer to pause and find their own meaning within the landscape.
