Artwork Description

In this self-portrait, I navigate the inner landscape of self-discovery and divine connection, delving into the depths of the subconscious through the transformative journey of shadow work. The canvas captures the essence of embracing all facets of the self, portraying the alchemical process of bringing hidden fragments into the luminous embrace of self-awareness.
A rich interplay of light and shadow symbolises the revelation of buried truths, as I confront and integrate the diverse aspects of my being. The divine feminine emerges as a guiding force, weaving through the composition, representing the nurturing power of self-acceptance. The dragon, my spirit animal, stands as a guardian of this introspective odyssey, embodying strength and wisdom gained through confronting inner demons.

Artist Bio

Jen Malone(working under her artist name Magic Coco) is a mixed media-based artist based in Sydney, Australia, whose work explores the intersection of nature, dreams, fairy tale, magical creatures, humour and emotions. Her whimsical and often cheeky magical creatures are infused with enchantment, drawing viewers into a world of vibrant colour and playful whimsy. Each artwork is infused with a touch of magic, giving the owner a sense of wonder and delight that lasts long after the painting is hung.

Jen’s artistic training is as diverse as her creations. Inspired by her Aunt, a professional artist Jen studied drawing and acrylic painting at community college, where she honed her skills in sketching and composition. Jen engaged in the art of ceramics at the Western Sydney University Hawkesbury campus. Additionally, she studied sculpture at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, Sydney, giving her a unique perspective on form and structure that is evident in how she creates her mixed media pieces.

Jen also studied Jungian psychotherapy, focusing on dream analysis, using art as a form of expression and exploration of the subconscious. This background gives her work an added layer of depth as she seeks to explore the deeper hidden elements of an emerging image, resulting in a direct alchemical experience through the colours and materials and the healing power of symbols and humour.

Working primarily in watercolour, inks, acrylics, paper collages and occasionally clay, Jen uses her medium to delve into the mysterious and ethereal, exploring the thin veil separating dimensions. She creates art that suggests that what is seen cannot be unseen and that there is a world beyond the tangible reality we experience.

As an artist, Jen is constantly pushing herself to grow and evolve. Jen invites you to join her on a journey of imagination and creativity where anything is possible. Whether you are a long-term admirer of her work or discovering her for the first time, her art will surely transport you to a world of magic and wonder.
