Artwork Description

Subject: Western Lowland Gorilla
Location: Congo Basin, Africa

Poetic Narrative:

I have felt you grow, bloom and even kick,
From within my own, your life started to tick.

And from the moment you came,
My heart sang and it felt euphoric.

For eternity the Earth shall echo my joy;
It is a moment historic.

Now that you are here, I have much to share;
To keep you safe, teach you my love and hold you dear.

I was once in your position,
Equipped with only my innocent intuition.

Together we shall discover,
Explore, wander and grow with one another.

Yes, we shall see pains, terrors and maybe misery too,
But fear not my warrior, for our joys will overshadow them;
And you will always push on through.

Such is the expedition,
This life we’re given.

There will be times where from your position,
The only outcome looks like failure and submission.

In these moments remember my lessons, teachings and your family’s traditions.

You are a force, a true noble presence,
So fight all your demons with a head on collision.

This land has always been yours but be humble and respectful of its ways,
Its creatures and its laws.
For one day it will be home to a little one that you will love and raise.

For now, let us start your story,
In time, you shall radiate glory.

So hold tight my love, I have much to show you.

Artist Bio

As an Artist my work is not intended to be a portrait of an animal; instead my mission is to convey a glimpse, a momentary pause from the life of that being. Together with an original piece of emotionally charged poetry, a voice is given to this moment, to this soul.

My palette and poetic narratives draw inspiration from eastern wisdom of the Auras, which reflect our emotional energy and signify our vibrancy of life. This influence is utilised to highlight the unifying force or soul that resides equal in all beings, transcending the physical form.

Using this combination of original poetry and richly visual artworks, I hope to explore the deeper connections that run spiritually, emotionally and experientially between all beings; with a goal to help motivate a new perspective of care, awareness and respect for our planet’s wildlife.

As a self-taught Artist and conservation advocate, I have a genuine desire to rekindle the connection between our environment, wildlife and us. Tackling challenges of conservation and eco-harmony, my art aims to portray the lives around us as a part of us; in the same way that we are all part of what Ancient Greek teachings term Gaia: the complex living being that is Mother Earth.
