Maheen Hashmi is an artist and painter based in Melbourne Australia with paintings exhibited in private and public collections globally. Her contemporary artwork is an amalgamation of light, beauty, and passion on canvas.
Her passion for art stemmed at a young age while watching her mother paint . Despite an advancement in her style of painting over the years, a few things have remained the same – her
love of paint, the need to create and the desire for self-expression. Her artwork is characterized and inspired by sunshine, the smell of rain, textured florals and tiny birds which reflects her childhood around nature and the gorgeous colours of the Australian landscape. The "sun" in her paintings represents divine glory, light and growth. As the sun shines bold and free, it brings warmth to the creation and inspires to seek beauty within, whereas the tiny birds often found in her art pieces are a symbol of hope and joy. She often paints an out of focus blur like the bokeh effect in her artworks to help the viewer focus on the main subject. Her chosen medium is acrylics, gold/silver leaf and gold dust on canvas. Textured, bold strokes of glossy acrylic paint add character to the paintings and radiating gold leaf acts as a symbol of goodness and warmth.
Her signature collections include Chamak, Morning Glory, Floral Indulgence, and Petrichor. Her artwork has been a part of multiple exhibitions such as "Alif" in Marriott in 2021. The most exhilarating part of the process for her is watching her paintings come alive on canvas, engaging the viewer, and bringing them into the beautiful world that she has created.
